Media Relations Manager (Senior Information Officer)
Summary:
My client are a medium sized governing body based in fantastic offices in Washington. They are seeking a Media Relations Manager to develop and manage a complete programme of media and public relations. Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications and responsible for a Media Relations Assistant you will be expected to produce a comprehensive media service to all external sources as and when it is required.
Main Responsibilities:
Produce a quality pro-active and responsive media service on behalf of a large security organisation, ensuring fast, precise and an up-to-date supply of information. Support the organisation and associated bodies including strategic and consultative media / communications advice when required. When possible, maintain a shared voluntary provision of an out of hours media cover.
Establish the crucial needs and strategic direction for public relations. Create briefing documentation to inform on developments and monitor progress. Maintain agreed objectives are adhered to and targets met. For new proposals and policy decisions ensure PR strategies are in place within agreed timescales.
Determine the key needs and strategic direction for client relations and update the national approach in our Scotland and Northern Ireland projects up to implementation and beyond. Work with Marketing Manager in Scotland and in conjunction with the PR team, ensure agreed objectives are adhered to and targets met.
Maintain PR consultancy account and ensure transfer of the agreed strategy. Meet with Marketing colleagues to observe delivery of PR strategies on a monthly basis, ensuring agreed objectives are met and progress strengthens the goals of the organisation.
Work with internal consultants, Heads and other groups to advise on PR and communication aspects of projects and strategies. Maintain a watching brief for Marketing and, where necessary, contribute to strategies on time and ensuring Marketing objectives are met.
Research the current market and make changes in line with our policies and work with colleagues to draft speeches for Chairman and Chief Executive.
Manage and develop the Media Relations Assistant, supporting them in their personal development, steering them towards new media related skills. Encourage greater focus on building networks and relationships with trade and wider media contacts.
Relevant Knowledge and experience
A journalistic or press office background with a sound knowledge of the US media scene.
Experience of working as part of a team of communications professionals in a corporate or public sector communications operation.
Demonstrable experience of managing and delivering PR programmes and discrete activities, especially as part of larger corporate communication programmes.
Demonstrable skills in writing and researching articles and press releases.
